It seems to me that the development of robust, lasting, measureable and implementable strategy and marketing has gone to the dogs.
We are infested with short term rubbish that reflects the lack of experience of those doing the developing, and lack of understanding of those doing the commissioning, obsessed as they are with the short term.
Last week, Bloomberg revealed that the software in the Boeing 737 Max was outsourced to a bunch of recent graduates in India. Unfortunately, we all know the result of that exercise.
Not only were hundreds killed in the two crashes that followed, but the brand ‘Boeing’ took a dive with them.
How is that for the ROI on a few bob saved on experience!
You cannot put an old head on a young dog, all they do is yap.
Wayne, No, nobody thought about it. I suspect it was not arrogance, and distain, more scared, and pushed by short sighted KPI’s, and ignorant, ego driven, and wall street focussed senior management.
never discount incompetence in favour of conspiracy.
Fair call Allen. Having been in lower management in a large corporate, a big 4 bank no less, in the mid 90’s I’m familiar with the oppressive squeeze of unrealistic KPI’s, unspoken expectations and toxic culture created and perpetuated by spineless mid/ senior management. So, I accept that most failures and oversights leading to inefficiencies, frustrations and even the losses of millions of dollars were not purposely spawned by disdain or arrogance. Then again, no one died as far as I’m aware.
I’m not a friend or family member of the 346 souls lost as a result one or more frightened/ unduly pressured team member’s conscious or unconscious incompetence. I suspect they’d have far stronger words to describe such monstrous failings.
Wow! Boeing really did that, and that was the cause of the crash? Unbelievable! Malaysia Airlines must be feeling extra happy – not!
Yes, pretty hard to believe, but then you think about the cost pressures on corporations, and the KPI’s imposed on operational management, and you knwo ti is true, and still happening.
I remain stunned. What short-sightedness, negligence, disdain and arrogance. As per other comments, the issue would seem to be less around outsourcing per se (in the same way car makers are now less manufacturers than assemblers) but rather the lack of clear processes, accountability and quality control.
Didn’t anyone ask themselves the question, “Won’t someone I love fly in these aircraft one day?”
